Hi there ... fancy meeting you here!
Are you interested in the areas of international human resource management, personnel economics and the quality of (working) life?
Then I hope this site will be of some use ...
First, perhaps a little bit about myself:
Biography
I was born in Germany in 1967 and was educated at the University of Saarland, London School of Economics, University of Westminster and Staffordshire University. A labour economist and applied statistician by training, I commenced my academic career in the United Kingdom where I held appointments as Professor of Economics and Management, Grampian Chair of Public Policy, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and Pro Vice Chancellor.
In 2004, my wife and I moved to New Zealand where I served AUT School of Business in Auckland as Professor, Associate Dean (Research) and Chair of the Department of Business Economics. During my five years in Auckland, I initiated several international research partnerships with leading business schools in China, Europe and the United States. I was also responsible for the Faculty-wide portfolio design and submission to the 2006 research assessment exercise (PBRF), which resulted in AUT being ranked amongst the top 5 research-led Business Schools in New Zealand.
In Spring 2009, I returned to the UK where I currently serve Bournemouth University as Professor of Economics and Management and Dean of the Business School. Characterised by an increasingly powerful research culture, the multi-award winning Business School is the University's largest Faculty, with some 2,500 undergraduate, 300 postgraduate and around 50 research students. One of the UK's fastest growing business schools, postgraduate and executive study options have become an increasingly popular feature of the School's provision. During 2009/10, overseas postgraduate enrolments have risen in excess of 40%. The School's success is also evidenced by its current investment programme. Although operating in a challenging financial environment, I am currently leading the Business School in its endeavour to appoint 25 new academic staff, including several professorial appointments.
Beyond my leadership and management responsibilities, I have written extensively in the areas of human resource management, employee relations and personnel economics, and also serve as an editorial board member and adviser of several peer reviewed journals and international publishing houses.
In my capacity as senior policy and strategy consultant and during my time in Scotland (1995 - 2001), I reported directly to Scotland’s Minister for Enterprise & Lifelong Learning and accepted Scottish Ministers’ invitation to support the Scottish University for Industry as a member of its Foundation Board of Directors. Together with colleagues from Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Executive, I was also responsible for the creation of Future Skills Scotland, the country’s labour market intelligence unit. More recently (2007-09), I served as a member of the Economic Policy Advisory Group of New Zealand's National Party and provided policy advice on labour market research to the Government of Vietnam.
My policy proposals were debated publicly during parliamentary sessions and my academic work has been covered widely by international press and media outlets. My research results informed the policy work of the World Bank, OECD, European Commission, United Nations, the UK House of Commons, numerous central and local government departments, economic development agencies, and industry associations.
